Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about the studio I want to build as well as the environment and culture I will be cultivating.
First, Megan and I are different people, we have different skills, strengths, knowledge and experiences. But, we both fiercely love your kids, our students. We are both extremely passionate about the art of movement and dance. We both want our students and faculty to thrive and achieve their dancing dreams, in any and all ways that we can. That being said, there will be changes during this transition period, but I hope to make them as seamless for all of us as possible.
Second, we will remain a non-competitive studio. I do not believe that a competition atmosphere creates a safe space for anyone to truly learn how to express themselves, how to fail or how to cheer for others when they reach milestones along their journey. I want our studio to be one that encourages everyone to be their best, support their friends and family and learn how to be a team and corps member. With that in mind, I am bringing in more ballet classes to the studio, while keeping hip hop, jazz, tap and contemporary. We will still have two shows a year, winter and spring, and there will be other performance opportunities along the way. As with Junction, students are welcome and encouraged to audition and compete as their heart desires and for what their hearts desire. I will help them prepare and go over any and all notes with them to improve and grow. I also encourage the students to audition for Nutcracker, Thriller and any other productions they would like to experience. The best way to gain professional experience is to be surrounded and involved in those settings. We are lucky to be located in a location that values the arts and has opportunities for children to be professionals.
Third, I understand that if what I plan on bringing and how I am changing the studio does not feel right to you, you are not obligated to stay. I do not and will not take it personally. A studio is an extension of your family, they become your family, and you have to feel that connection to want to stay. I would love for you to give me a chance, but again, you are not obligated to do so.
I truly appreciate your time and look forward to working with you and your dancers to build a safe, fun, family centered studio. A space where we cultivate both personal and technical growth.
Sincerely,
Kristen Bailey
We want this transition to be as seamless as possible for everyone.
